Kilmainham Gaol
this is a ‘must see’ for historian enthusiasts. It opened in 1796 for the local people who broke the law. Later became more well known for the number of Irish Patriots and Rebels who were incarcerated and were shot dead in the gaol from 1798 through to 1803, 1848,1867, and the more recent been the Rebels of the 1916 ricing.
Collins Barracks
Built in 1702 as a Irish Army Barracks for the English. The student soldiers of the day had to give allegiance to the crown of England. after 1922 it became known as Collins Barracks and today it is the National Military Museum of Ireland.
Arbour Hill
located behind Collins Barracks near Phoenix Park. Its most important for the fact that 14 of the leaders of the 1916 Rising are buried there. The Irish Proclamation is written on the Granite Wall. The Easter Rising is commemorated every year on Easter Monday.
